The most popular is black, but you can also find lava in various other shades. It originates from China. Carnelians are generally characterised by yellowish, reddish or reddish-brown shades caused by the presence of hematite impurities. In terms of composition, it is a variety of chalcedony, which is the general name for fibrous cryptocrystalline quartz.
