Botswana agate is another in a series of rare agates, this time originating from Botswana. Botswana agates are collector's items, as the government banned the export of unprocessed raw agates after Botswana declared independence, and the embargo remains in place to this day. Botswana agates are distinguished by their beautiful patterning and striking banding. The sharp contrast between white and dark bands is often complemented by a red centre (coloured by iron oxides), which adds even greater dynamism to the overall appearance.
