Stone description: A two-colour speciality that contains red ruby embedded in a deep green zoisite matrix. Ruby zoisite is mined in two deposits in Tanzania – but these are now largely depleted, so the price of high-quality raw material continues to rise. In terms of composition, ruby is a gemstone variety of corundum – aluminium oxide. Zoisite is a calcium aluminium silicate, related to epidote.
