In terms of composition, it is a group of important rock-forming silicate minerals containing aluminium, iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, chromium and other elements. Spessartine was named after the Spessart locality in Germany. It is a translucent mineral distinguished by its striking brownish-red to orange colour.
