Stone description: Andean blue opal (sometimes also called Peruvian blue opal) is a rare and visually captivating stone that is mined exclusively in the Andes. Unlike classic precious opals, it does not display a play of colours (colour change), but fascinates with its shades reminiscent of the tropical sea. In terms of chemical composition, it is a hydrated silicon oxide. It gets its colour thanks to microscopic copper inclusions. Blue opal is the national stone of Peru and is found at high altitudes in the Andes.
