It also got its name from its colour – the Latin word rubeus reflects precisely red. It belongs among the most valuable gemstones. Among the main producers of gemstone raw material are Burma, and deposits in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia and Madagascar are also renowned. In terms of composition, it is a gemstone variety of corundum – aluminium oxide. This ruby is lab-grown, that is, artificially synthesised in a laboratory environment. Synthetic rubies have fewer cracks and flaws than naturally occurring rubies.
