Stone description: Malachite is an opaque mineral characterised by green shades ranging from lighter tones to black-green. The striking colouring is then elegantly complemented by delicate banding. Malachite boasts a long history; as early as Ancient Egypt, cameos, amulets and other decorative objects were carved from it. Crushed malachite was also used as a pigment in painting or as make-up. In terms of composition, it is a basic copper carbonate.
