Stone description: The green to brownish-green tint of this type of garnet is caused by an admixture of chromium. It belongs to the grossular/andradite group and occurs in the Kayes locality in Mali, Africa. Garnet is generally a distinctive mineral specimen that itself exists in about 15 variations. In terms of composition, it is a group of important rock-forming silicate minerals containing aluminium, iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, chromium and other elements.
