Stone description: Yellow like a lemon – hence its name from the Latin citrina. Citrine is an attractive variety of quartz, but naturally occurring rough is very rare. Therefore, citrine is often produced by heat-treating amethyst – heating it above 350 °C changes the iron in amethyst from ferrous to ferric, which shifts the purple colour to yellow. This citrine has the same origin. Citrines made from high-quality Brazilian amethyst stand out with a golden-yellow shade and are among the popular stones used as a more affordable alternative to naturally occurring citrines.
