Stone description: Obsidian, or volcanic glass, forms in a unique way when hot lava cools so rapidly that individual minerals do not have time to crystallize. The black variety of obsidian occurs as irregular balls of volcanic glass enclosed in the host rock made of soft, glassy perlite. The stone has an intense black colour and comes from Mexico.
