Stone description: Mookaite comes in earthy shades from creamy and ochre through red to purple and brown. Often, its colours blend into a single multicoloured pattern. It is found in western Australia near the Kennedy Range on local farmers’ land. It has only recently begun to be used for commercial purposes. In terms of composition, it is a rock made up of 90% siliceous components permeated by sediments formed by single-celled organisms (so-called radiolarians).
