Stone description: Lapis lazuli stands out with a rich blue colour, which it owes to the mineral lazurite contained within. Thanks to it, it also got its name – lapis lazuli is an Arabic expression for blue colouring. In classic deposits (for example Badakhshan in Afghanistan), it was mined already in antiquity. In the past, it was often used to make the blue pigment ultramarine. In terms of composition, it is a rock whose main component is the mineral lazurite, along with grains of pyrite, calcite and mica.
