Stone description: Lapis stands out for its intense blue colour, which it owes to the mineral lazurite. Thanks to it, it also got its name – lapis lazuli is an Arabic expression for blue colouring. In classic deposits (for example Badakhshan in Afghanistan), it was mined already in antiquity. In the past it was often used to produce the blue pigment ultramarine. In terms of composition, it is a rock whose main component is the mineral lazurite, along with grains of pyrite, calcite and mica.
