Quartz with needle-like crystals of the mineral rutile may be familiar to you under the name Venus hair. These rutile inclusions can be silver or reddish-brown in colour; the most sought-after, however, is the golden shade. Very rarely, rutile forms golden stars, often with a metallic grey hematite centre. Its origin goes back to Brazilian deposits in the state of Minas Gerais. In terms of composition, it is the purest, transparent variety of crystalline quartz.
