Stone description: Carnelians are generally characterised by yellowish, reddish or reddish-brown shades caused by the presence of hematite. The mineral has a long history and was used as a gemstone already in antiquity. In terms of composition, it is a variety of chalcedony, which is a general name for fibrous cryptocrystalline quartz.
