Stone description: Due to their many impurities, jaspers form a colourful group of stones. Picture jasper owes its brown colouring to iron oxides. Its coloured areas often draw interesting „picture“ motifs, which gave it its name. The raw material comes from South Africa. In terms of composition, it is a variety of chalcedony, which is a general name for fibrous cryptocrystalline quartz.
