Stone description: Jaspers form a colourful group of stones due to the high content of various impurities. Picture jasper owes its brown colouring to iron oxides. Its coloured areas often create interesting “picture-like” motifs, which gave it its name. The raw material comes from South Africa. In terms of composition, it is a variety of chalcedony, which is the general name for fibrous cryptocrystalline quartz.
