Citrine is an attractive form of quartz, but the raw material is very rare in nature, so citrine is often produced by heat-treating amethyst – heating it above 350 °C changes the original ferrous iron in amethyst to ferric iron, which leads to a change from purple to yellow. This citrine has the same origin. Citrines processed from high-quality Brazilian amethyst stand out with a golden shade of yellow and are among the popular stones that replace the financially inaccessible natural citrines.
