Citrine is an attractive form of quartz, but it is very rare in nature, so citrine is often produced by heat-treating amethyst – heating it above 350 °C converts the original ferrous iron in amethyst to ferric iron, which changes the purple colour to yellow. This citrine has the same origin. Citrines processed from high-quality Brazilian amethyst have a golden yellow shade and are among the popular stones that replace natural citrines, which are too expensive.
