Stone description: Yellow like a lemon – hence its name from the Latin citrina. Citrine is an attractive variety of quartz, but it is very rare in nature. Therefore, citrine is often produced by heat-treating amethyst: when heated above 350 °C, ferrous iron in amethyst changes to ferric iron, which causes the colour to change from purple to yellow. This citrine has the same origin. Citrines processed from high-quality Brazilian amethyst stand out with a golden yellow shade and are among the popular stones that replace natural citrines, which are often price-prohibitive.
